• Emotional Development

  Children’s Emotional Development Is Built into the Architecture of Their Brains [Harvard study].
  
  A Harvard study highlights the critical role of early emotional interactions, such as the "serve and return" interaction, in shaping a child's emotional and cognitive development.
  
  Babies need to be touched, held, spoken to, smiled at, played with…. As they receive and respond to these interactions, beautiful relationships of trust are built between child and adult.
  
  Numu is committed to creating a positive and inclusive environment where babies receive a lot of love, care, attention, and meaningful communication through our ’Serve and Return’ program.
  
  Staff actively and consistently practice serve-and-return interactions with the child. When a child serves through a smile, a babble or gesture the adults returns this serve with a meaningfully response, laying the foundation for neural connections to be built in the brain.
  

• Self-Management

  As their hand-eye coordination improves, babies learn to grasp objects, feed themselves, and manipulate small objects.
  
  playtime offers infants different experiences to touch, smell, feel, grasp, mouth, shake, and pick up.
  
  At Numu, staff encourage self-feeding with appropriate utensils and finger foods.

• Language acquisition From babble to word

  Children have the ability to make all the sounds in the human language. 95% of babble is composed of the 12 most common consonants around the world.
  
  Learning beings with play – a babble, a coo, progressing to mimicking gestures and sounds they hear like "ma,” “da,” “ah,” “oh" and even "no!”
  
  At Numu, children are immersed in a linguistic environment through our serve and return program and reading sessions.

• Cognitive Development

  Infants start to recognize faces, track moving objects, and show interest in simple patterns and contrasting colors.
