Raising Happy Readers
At Numu, we believe that children become readers even before they can read. Our ‘Fly Me to the Moon‘ summer reading program is designed to foster a lifelong love of reading by creating joyful and meaningful experiences with books.
When we read our stories, children smile, laugh, dance, and connect with the characters. Through our expertly designed activities, they get to live out and experience the stories themselves, giving deeper meaning to the books and enhancing their understanding.
Our reading program creates happy moments, allowing children to associate positive feelings with books! “Fly Me to the Moon” has taken our little campers on a magical summer adventure. Stories have come to life through seven action-packed weeks, each boasting a unique theme and activities that promise to captivate and educate.
At Numu Nursery, we care deeply about reading because it plays a crucial role in early childhood education. Reading enhances vocabulary, concentration, and creativity, helping children grow in a well-rounded manner.
The Numu approach
The Fly Me to the Moon Reading Program allows our little campers to explore new worlds, cultures, and ideas. Through stories and activities, we teach important values such as friendship, teamwork, and sportsmanship. We choose narratives that help instil a sense of community and positive social behaviour in our children. At Numu, we believe early childhood education should be interactive and fun.
Our approach helps children retain information better and enjoy the learning process, opening doors to knowledge, values, and endless possibilities for every child. We strive to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where your child can experience the joy and benefits of reading.
The story so far
The first week of “Fly Me to the Moon” at Numu Nursery was all about self-discovery, inspired by books that celebrate the unique qualities of each individual. Week one was ‘The Little Incredible YOU’, where we read some of our favourite stories like “The Wonderful Things You Will Be” and “I Love You To The Moon and Back.” It was a week filled with exploration and creativity for our little adventurers.
Starting with the Brave Explorer Station, pretend binoculars, maps, and exploration gear were soon taken to far-off places. The Little Picasso Creative Artist Area was a hive of creativity, while the Dream Catcher Creations activity provided a space to share not-so-little hopes and dreams. The grand finale, ‘The Wonderful Things You Will Be’ talent show, was everything you could hope it would be, with our little star’s talents shining brightly.
In the second week of Fly Me to the Moon, we entered the delightful world of dragons, featuring beloved books like Dragons Love Tacos and The Gruffalo. Taco Tuesday was one of many memorable highlights from the week, with our little dragon trainers enjoying kid-friendly tacos.
The grand finale of our adventure was an absolute hit! Dancing with dragons to the lively tune of ‘We Are Going on a Dragon Hunt’ had everyone squealing with laughter. The kids, dressed as little dragons, swam across imaginary oceans and climbed towering mountains, all while immersed in the magical rhythm of the song.
Week three was ‘When the Moon Blooms’, with the children making Paper Lanterns inspired by the moonlight and “I Love You to the Moon” Cards. Week four brought the Pet Parade, celebrating our furry friends through classic, charming books like “Clifford the Big Red Dog” and “Splat the Cat.”
While exploring pet responsibility was fun, the week’s big winner was undoubtedly the ‘I Scream for Ice-Cream Experiment’ science activity. The ice cream party ensured this was the sweetest week of Fly Me to the Moon so far. But that doesn’t mean the fun is over!
What’s still to come
There’s lots still to come in the remaining weeks of Numu’s Fly Me to the Moon Summer Program over the next three weeks, with the Olympic Games-inspired week already underway and lots more fun and excitement to follow.
Our reading program and summer camp encapsulate the spirit of Numu and our philosophy towards early childhood education. We still believe in magic and wish to create a place full of smiles and positive associations for all who step through our doors. Creativity is a wonderful gift that needs to be nurtured, and for it to truly flourish, we all need to tap into our imaginations.
